1. Introduction

At Homagni, every piece of silver jewellery we sell is crafted from 925 Sterling Silver and is BIS Hallmarked, giving you an independent, verifiable assurance of the metal's purity.

2. What is BIS Hallmarking?

BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) hallmarking is a certification system administered by India's national standards body, which verifies and certifies the purity of precious metal jewellery. A BIS hallmark on a piece of jewellery confirms that it has been independently assayed (tested) at a BIS-recognised Assaying & Hallmarking Centre and conforms to the declared purity standard.

3. 925 Sterling Silver

"925" or Sterling Silver refers to an alloy composed of 92.5% pure silver, with the remaining 7.5% typically made up of other metals (usually copper) to give the silver strength and durability for everyday wear, while staying true to the traditional purity standard for fine silver jewellery.

4. Voluntary Hallmarking

Unlike gold jewellery, hallmarking of silver jewellery is currently voluntary in India — BIS has not yet made it a mandatory nationwide requirement. At Homagni, we choose to have our silver jewellery hallmarked as a matter of policy, because we believe verified purity shouldn't be optional.

5. What Our Hallmark Shows

Each hallmarked Homagni piece carries the BIS mark along with the 925 purity grade and the identification mark of the BIS-recognised Assaying & Hallmarking Centre where it was tested, confirming that the silver has been independently verified for purity.

6. Handcrafted Variation

As our jewellery is largely handcrafted, minor variations in weight of up to ±10% from the displayed specification may occur. This does not affect the certified purity of the silver, which remains 925 regardless of minor weight variation. For more detail, see our Terms & Conditions.
